How to Create Backups in cPanel?


Backing up your website is important for protecting your data and ensuring you can recover it if something goes wrong. cPanel makes it simple to set up backups. Follow these instructions to
make backups in cPanel.

  1. Log in to cPanel
    First login to your cPanel account using your username and password. This will take you to the main dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Backup
    Once logged in, scroll down or use the search bar to find the "Backup" icon under the "Files" section. Click on it to open the Backup.
  3. Download a Full Account Backup
    To create a full backup of your account, click on the "Download a Full Account Backup" button. This backup will include all your website files, databases, email accounts, and settings.
  4. Generate a Backup
    In the next screen, you will see options to select the backup destination. Usually, you can leave it as "Home Directory." You can also enter your email address to receive a notification when the backup is complete. Click on the "Generate Backup" button to start the process.
  5. Download the Backup File
    Once the backup is complete, you will receive a notification email (if you provided an email address). You can then return to the Backup interface and click on "Download a Full Account Backup." Find your backup file in the list and click on it to download it to your computer.
  6. Create Partial Backups
    If you prefer to back up specific parts of your account, you can create partial backups. In the Backup interface, you will see options to download backups for:
    1. Home Directory: This includes your website files.
    2. MySQL Databases: This includes your databases.
    3. Email Forwarders & Filters: This includes your email settings. Click on the desired option and download the backup files to your computer.
  7. Restore a Backup
    If you ever need to restore your website from a backup, go to the "Backup" interface and find the "Restore a Home Directory Backup" or "Restore a MySQL Database" options. Click on the appropriate option, select your backup file from your computer, and follow the instructions to restore your data.
  8. Automated Backups (if available):
    This can save you time and ensure your data is regularly backed up without manual intervention.


Setting up backups in cPanel  can save you from data loss and ensure your website is always recoverable. Make it a habit to create regular backups and store them in a safe place.
