How to Access Raw Access Logs in cPanel?


Raw access logs are records of every visit to your website. They include detailed information about each visitor, such as their IP address, the pages they visited, and the date and time of their visit. Accessing these logs in cPanel is straightforward. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Log into cPanel
    Open your web browser.Type in your cPanel URL. Enter your cPanel username and password. Click the "Log In" button.
  2. Find the "Raw Access" Section
    Once you're logged into cPanel, you'll see a variety of icons and sections. Look for the section called "Metrics." This is typically found towards the middle or bottom of the page. Click on the "Raw Access" icon. This takes you to the Raw Access Logs page.
  3. Download Your Raw Access Logs
    On the Raw Access Logs page, you will see a list of your domains. Each domain will have an option to download its raw access logs. Click the link next to the domain for which you want to download the logs. This link is usually labeled something like "Download Raw Access Logs."
  4. Save the Log file
    The browser will ask you to save the log file. Select a location on your computer where you wish to save the file, then click "Save." The log file will be downloaded as a compressed (.gz) file.
  5. Extract the log file
    After downloading the file, you will need to extract it. To open the.gz file, use a file extraction application (such as WinRAR, 7-Zip, or the extraction tool integrated into your computer).
    Transfer the contents into a folder on your computer. The extracted file will be a plain text (.txt) file with the raw access logs.
  6. Open and View the Logs
    Open the extracted .txt file with a text editor (such as Notepad, Notepad++, or any other text editor). You will see a detailed list of all the visits to your website. Each entry will include information such as the visitor's IP address, the date and time of the visit, the pages visited, and more.
  7. Analyze the Logs
    Look through the log entries to gather information about your website's traffic. You can identify patterns, such as peak traffic times and popular pages. Use the data to make informed decisions about your website, like improving high-traffic pages or enhancing security based on unusual access patterns.
  8. Regular Monitoring
    Make it a habit to download and review your raw access logs regularly. Regular monitoring helps you stay informed about your website’s traffic and quickly identify any issues.
